Join Tiny Atlas’ creative community for a weekend retreat in Mendocino, California. Stay at modern, fully-furnished tents in the middle of a forest of coastal pines and Douglas firs overlooking the Pacific. All meals will be prepared with heart and creativity by the Catering Cousins, including some freshly foraged ingredients from Mendocino. Surrounded by lush canyons and crisp ocean air, we invite you to delve into your photography and writing skills and create alongside others in the Tiny Atlas community.
ITINERARY
On Thursday, arrive at your own leisure as you wind up the California coastline to beautiful Mendocino County. Meet and greet over a home-cooked meal at our campsite in Mendocino Grove. We’ll start our weekend with a group breakfast, then will set out to explore the area by hiking through forest trails and wandering the coastline. Along the way, we’ll learn about the area’s native plants, and forage for ingredients for delicious meals prepared by the Catering Cousins. Throughout the upcoming days, we’ll develop our creative skills through writing and photography workshops, then practice what we’ve learned on our outdoor excursions.
Disconnect from the daily scroll and instead hone your own visual identity. As we delve into the natural beauty of the setting we will listen for each participants' individual voice. We will discuss and explore photography concepts and techniques with Tiny Atlas founder & professional photographer, Emily Nathan, alongside travel blogger & photographer Marianna Jamadi. Emily & Marianna will work with you to support your individual voice at your own level and help you discover the power of authentic storytelling.
Drawing Workshop
Laura Rubin of AllSwell and a featured artist from the Tiny Atlas family will lead us through accessible activities to help demystify (or enrich) the experience of drawing. Using our beautiful surroundings as inspiration points, we’ll access the process of sketching to slow down, observe and connect. You don’t need to be an artist to participate. If you can finger paint, you can do this.
Air + Sky Journaling Workshop
Freedom, perspective, possibility. Putting pen to paper outdoors, we will provide points of inspiration from a mix of writers who use the sky above as their subject matter. We’ll explore the act of writing as we fill our blank AllSwell notebooks. The activities are designed to help each of us access our individual creative voice.
Catering Cousins Eden Batki and Sara Voden are hungry Hungarians who love to feed people using fresh Californian products. Eden specializes in foraged and International flavors while Sara is a master baker of savories and sweets. This duo brings back traditional dishes and places importance on comfort food while keeping in mind freshness and health.
Workshops will be complimented by photo walks through old-growth redwood forests and along the nearby California coastline to let your vision come alive. Dip your feet in the Navarro River or climb in a canoe for a drier ride. Rest at the end of the day in a beautifully-designed campsite nestled in the heart of Mendocino with snacks and drinks by the fire.
